In the day center “Koraci Nade” children and adolescents with disabilities are supported in their development through educational, psychological and artistic programs. In this way their self-confidence is to be strengthened and a sustainable social integration of people with disabilities is to be promoted.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, children and young people with mental and/or physical disabilities are often marginalized in everyday life. Not only infrastructural barriers, for example in kindergartens, schools or public transport, but also social prejudices make it difficult for them to live independently. There is also hardly any support from the state.
These daily experiences often lead to low confidence in the children’s own abilities. Often the affected children and their relatives withdraw from public life, which leads to an intensification of social exclusion.
A multidisciplinary team works to support children and young people with disabilities in their development. This is done through professional diagnostics, comprehensive educational and psychological programs as well as creative and artistic work. The products of the creative workshops are exhibited at events. This strengthens the children’s self-confidence and their interaction with others.
Children without disabilities from neighboring kindergartens and schools also take part in some of the activities. This is intended to promote the elimination of prejudices and thus the sustainable integration of people with disabilities into society. At the heart of the work is the vision that all children and young people – whether with or without disabilities – are an equal part of society.
For a long time the “Koraci Nade” center was the only one of its kind in the Tuzla area. But since 2019, with the newly opened center in Gradačac (1h north of Tuzla), the offer is supplemented by early childhood components.
In both facilities, participation by all is practiced: It is a matter of course that people with disabilities also work full-time or on a voluntary basis.
