The youth organisation Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL) and its European umbrella organisation SAME (Solidarity Action Day Movement in Europe) are looking for freelancers on a fee-basis, who would conceptualise and implement one or more weekend-long seminars. Three seminars are scheduled to take place in November 2020, February 2021 and June 2021 in Lübeck in Northern Germany.

‘European Solidarity Seminars’ is the title of the seminar series, following the aim of creating awareness on European topics related to solidarity, while also fostering intercultural exchange and dialogue. Apart from being educative activities, seminars would ideally also invite participants to take a stand on the topic in question and become active about it, be it in member organisations of SAME or in other initiatives.

Each seminar should focus on one of these topics:

  • Anti-discrimination (also including racism, sex and gender-based discrimination, minority rights and inclusion)
  • Climate change and social justice
  • Populism
  • Social movements, civil resistance
  • Migration

Finding the exact topics and contents of the seminar are up to the trainers to shape, and will be jointly decided upon. Seminars ought to be interactive and can include a wide range of methods, ranging from simple external expert input and discussions to role plays or even short movie productions.

Target group are young people (aged 16-23) from all over Europe, ideally also including local youth from the Lübeck area. Seminars last three full days, plus arrival day (Wednesday) and day of departure (Sunday). Seminars are to be implemented in-person following applicable hygiene and distancing rules. Depending on then-valid travel restrictions, it is possible that participants can only come from EU member states and those regions which are not classified as “areas of risk” by relevant German health institutions. Ideally, up to 30 participants take part in each seminar, while this number might have to be lowered depending on the Covid-19 situation.

You should have:

  • experience in conceptualizing, organising and implementing educational events and seminars for young people
  • good English skills
  • methodological expertise and pedagogical experiences/education are an advantage
  • experience in working with diverse, international groups

We offer

  • an intriguing, dynamic and international working context
  • a motivated and engaged team of young people
  • autonomy and creative freedom

The short application should contain a list of relevant previous experience, citing which of the topic(s) you would like to work on and your first ideas of what could be part of the seminar. Please include a total asking price (gross) and/or your price calculation (e.g. expected working hours and hourly rate).

Please send your application to Ansgar Seng ( Application deadline is September 24th 2020. In case of questions, please contact Ansgar Seng via email or telephone at +49 (0)30 2250271-60.
